Scrum Master @ Exari since 2013

I was approached to join Exari as the Technical Author and Product Support Consultant which I did for four years. I am now the Scrum Master for the development teams in Newbury which is great fun. When I joined, I was attracted by the company’s positive attitude to flexible working. There is a friendly atmosphere and we often go for lunch on a Friday. As the technical author, I often need to ask for assistance from other teams and everyone is always willing to help. We are always looking for ways to improve how we work although the latest suggestion of standing on one leg during our daily scrum meetings had to be rejected because I would fall over. Some team members like the idea of doing keepie-upies whilst talking but I think they will keep that for their weekly football matches.

We use Scrum to plan the development work including playing planning poker during our estimation sessions and we are always looking for opportunities to improve with suggestions welcome from all team members.

I first joined Exari as a placement student whilst studying at the University of Reading. As you can imagine, it was quite scary going into a professional working environment for the first time. However everyone was welcoming and friendly, the working environment was fun and challenging. I enjoyed my year placement so much, in fact, that I ended up returning to Exari after graduation and have never looked back. From starting out in the Professional Services team to moving to the Software Test team, Exari shows it cares about its employees and their personal development. I have learnt a lot about different and current cutting edge technologies. A day never goes by where you don’t learn something new or encounter some exciting challenges. Of course, it’s not all work, and we’ll play football and badminton during lunch times.

Senior Developer/Team Leader @ Exari since 2010

In 2010, I joined Exari straight out of university. I began as a Rule Writer but soon discovered that my real passion lay in R&D. With the support of my colleagues and manager, I transitioned to that department as Developer. I am now an R&D Team Leader. During my time at Exari, I have worked on a diverse array of projects and products, learning countless languages, techniques and tools along the way. This variety has constantly pushed me to improve both my skills and the products I work on. We have a great atmosphere in the Newbury office, making every day a good day to come to work, no matter what fiddly feature or hard to nail down bug you happen to be working on.
