Despite winning the latest battle for ISO approval of its Open Office XML (OOXML) format for word-processing and spreadsheet documents, the standards war rages on. India, Brazil, South Africa and Venezuela have appealed the decision, and the standard is in limbo pending the appeal process. Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced that it will also support the rival OpenDocument format (ODF) which is already a standard, and is backed by the likes of IBM.
